We are really enjoying The Story of the World Volume 1 as our history curriculum so far this year. I found a screaming deal at Abe Books on the storybook as well as an accompanying workbook. It was about $18 for both of them – cheaper than just one of those materials at full price. Love me a good deal!  The kids are all loving the simple history ‘stories’ that walk us through ancient times in an engaging and straightforward style.

After learning about Sumeria’s arrival on the scene as one of the first people to write a language, we made a hands-on learning activity to see what it would be like to use clay and cuneiform to write. We stirred up a quick batch of salt dough (1 c. flour, 1/2 c. salt, scant 1/2 c. water). Hunter wrote his name using a cunieform alphabet.
