We reused the cards from yesterday’s memory game to play with sums. This activity was much too easy for Hunter which encourages me. I feel like we go “light” on math and numbers (no surprise since I am his teacher.  I would read and write all day!) so to see him easily breeze through these addition games was nice to see.

I laid out sets of cards and asked to verbalized the sum and answer. For example, “One screw plus three pulleys plus two inclined planes equals six simple machines.”  I chose to have him verbally give the answer instead of writing it since handwriting can be a source of frustration for him still. I wanted him to be confident in his adding skills and not discouraged by struggling with writing.  If we do this activity again I’ll have to think of a way to make it more challenging but the format worked well.
